Post-Doctoral Fellowships
The Centre currently hosts a number of post-doctoral fellows working across the full range of CHS research themes and programs. Post-doctoral fellows at CHS take part fully in the collegial life of the Centre and have made a significant contribution to our intellectual life and academic programs. Some fellowships at CHS are internally supported through specific projects or programs (e.g. NHMRC Capacity Development Grant in Aboriginal Health), or through internal Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences funded fellowships (eg. R.D. Wright Fellowship). Other fellowships are initiated externally by individuals who seek funding for independent research that falls under the Centre’s research purview (e.g. from ARC, NHMRC, private foundations).
The CHS welcomes enquiries from individuals seeking to set up independent post-doctoral research in the Centre. As there are limited capacities (financial and physical) to support all potential postdoctoral applicants, it is recommended that those interested in locating postdoctoral fellowships in the Centre be fully appraised about the Centre’s research activities. Potential applicants are advised to contact the research coordinator early in the application process to ensure the Centre is well placed to support the application.
Accordingly, we offer the following information regarding post-doctoral fellowship enquiries:
- Please contact and consult with us well ahead of application deadlines (i.e. months rather than weeks ahead) to enable us to ensure that we can provide the appropriate resources, help you to refine your application and ensure that relevant signatures can be sought.
- For externally initiated independent research, preference will be given to proposals that integrate with, and complement, on-going research at the Centre. Please browse the Staff Directory to view the on-going research work of individual academic staff.
- We encourage you to make prior contact with individual CHS academic staff who work in your area of interest to discuss research options.
Some fellowships do not provide full salary support in accordance with the University of Melbourne awards. Like some other University Departments, the Centre cannot guarantee that it is able to provide top-up funding for Fellowships that do not provide full salary support. This will need to be assessed on a case by case basis. Prospective Fellows are responsible for making sure that this is negotiated in advance of submitting any proposals.
We welcome your inquiries and urge you to visit the Melbourne Research Office and the Research Section of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentisty and Health Sciences website.
